This dish is low effort and tastes great. You will need a food processor.
Originally, I tried a somewhat complex recipe (substituting maple syrup for mirin, since mirin contains alcohol) and it got me hooked. But I now prefer this simpler recipe from POV Husband since it requires less ingredients (both number and volume) while offering a very similar taste.
- 4 lbs of beef short ribs
- 1 whole korean pear (often called asian pear)
- 10 garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger
- ½ onion
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- ½ tbsp black pepper
- (Optional) sesame seeds to garnish
Directions
- Peel the pear and cut into chunks the food processor can handle.
- Peel and cut the ginger into thin slices against the grain. This will prevent long fibers from making it to the final dish.
- Blend the marinade ingredients (pear, garlic, ginger, onion, brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper) in a food processor.
- Add the marinade to the meat, making sure to fully cover every rib.
- Aim to marinate the meat for at least 6 hours. Longer the better.
- Grill the ribs on a medium heat.
- (Optional) Add sesame seeds before serving.
